On June 28, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Kyiv delivered two critical medical equipment to Hospital No. 4 in Dnipro. This donation, part of the €14 million First Emergency Call, is aimed at distributing advanced medical equipment to three Ukrainian hospitals, including two in the city of Lviv.
The supply for Dnipro hospital includes endoscopy and gastroscopy machines, essential for enhancing the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of the medical facility. These tools were specifically chosen in response to the high number of patients with internal bleeding who require timely and complex interventions.
Hospital No. 4 in Dnipro, located just 90 km from the front line, plays a crucial role as a secondary line hospital where injured individuals are transported from occupied zones or the front line after initial treatment in field hospitals. The city and its surroundings are also frequent targets of missile attacks, increasing the number of patients and the urgency of necessary medical operations. Natalia But, General Director of the Hospital, and Rostyslav Bublii, Gastroenterologist, highlighted that with the onset of the war, the number of patients treated annually has risen from 20,000 to 44,000, while the surgeries performed have increased from 8,000 to 15,000.
“With this donation, we aim to demonstrate our concrete support for the Ukrainian healthcare system at such a critical time,” said Pietro Pipi, Head of the AICS office in Kyiv. “Our priority is to provide essential tools that can save lives and improve the care conditions for patients affected by the conflict. The dedication of these doctors – operational 24 hours a day near the front lines to address emergencies – is an extraordinary example of service.”
Within the same hospital, AICS Kyiv also supports the initiative of the Onlus Soleterre and the Zapor
ouka Foundation, included in the Call for the Population Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine and Neighboring Countries, worth €46 million – which offers physical rehabilitation and psychological support to victims of the conflict.
AICS has been operating in the health sector in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Between 2022 and 2024, it launched 24 projects dedicated to health, protection, and well-being of the population, totaling over €20 million.
The initiative was carried out in close collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Ukraine, which supported the Agency in identifying the medical facilities.
