The Kyiv office is responsible for implementing initiatives funded by Italian Cooperation in Ukraine and Moldova. Italy’s commitment to these two countries is not only an immediate humanitarian response to the ongoing war, but also part of a strategic effort to support alignment with the acquis communautaire, meaning the adoption and implementation of EU regulations and political goals shared by member states, in view of the prospective accession of both countries to the European Union.

Since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine on February 22, 2022, Italy has invested significant human and financial resources in humanitarian assistance and development cooperation initiatives in support of the Ukrainian government and its people.

Italian funding allocated to humanitarian interventions, cooperation, first recovery efforts, direct budget support, and aid credits in Ukraine, Moldova, and neighboring countries amounts to approximately 990 million euros, of which 530 million are managed through Italian Cooperation. Additionally, 75 tons of humanitarian goods have already been supplied.

These initiatives aim to improve the living conditions of the civilian population and mitigate the tragic direct and indirect consequences of the conflict.

The opening in 2023 of the new office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Kyiv, the first in Eastern Europe, is a tangible sign of Italy’s determination to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in their pursuit of stability, prosperity, and development.
